For the 2026 municipal election, the Town of Prescott will be going paperless.
At Monday night’s meeting, council voted to move its voting system away from paper ballots, with voting to take place exclusively online or over the phone.

The report to council from town staff recommended this option, citing a number of reasons why the shift would be beneficial, including efficient and accurate vote counting, confidentiality, accessibility, integrity and convenience.
Mayor Gauri Shankar emphasized that online voting will remove the element of human error on both sides of the ballot box, such as recounts and spoiled ballots.
“We can now go to multiple locations and have pop-up voting stations, whereas with paper ballots, we could only have it in one location,” said Shanka
