Andrea and Nicholas Loving were in court Tuesday, but they weren’t seen or heard.

Back-to-back hearings were held for the Cold Springs couple who are accused of child abuse and, in Nicholas Loving's case, murder in the death of their 5-year-old daughter, Izabella.

Public defenders Katheryn Hickman and Emilie Meyer appeared via Zoom from Washoe County jail, where the Lovings were kept just off-camera during their separate hearings before judges Ryan Sullivan and Kendra Bertschy.

Both judges and attorneys from the district attorney’s office were present in the downtown Reno courtroom. Defendants in Zoom hearings in Reno Justice Court generally appear next to their attorneys and are shown on monitors in the courtroom.
