Quinte West is preparing to take several measures to calm down traffic on Highway 2.

During Wednesday’s council meeting, council discussed a proposal to install solar powered speed signs and declare a community safety zone along the stretch of Old Highway 2 between RCAF Road and Quinte View Drive.

Councillor Shelley Stedall was in favor of the new measures, but also suggested that more should be done to improve the road’s safety.

“It’s becoming an increasing problem as we have more and more development,” said councillor Stedall. “Take a look at improved lanes across highway number two so that we can get pedestrians and bikes off the road. So this is a great measure to start with, but I just don’t think it’s going far enough.”
