Defense attorney Ross Carponelli says his elderly client’s military history was a prominent factor when he fired upon Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to a report of a disturbance at his Topock residence early this year. Carponelli’s comments came during Wednesday’s sentencing hearing for Edward Chemleski, 81. No one was injured when Chemleski exited his home in the 5000 block of East Aravaipa Place in the dark of night firing upon officers and drawing return fire before retreating back inside his home. He subsequently surrendered without further incident.
