Zomba Police have seized 16 litres of petrol in a targeted operation aimed at curbing the illegal sale of petroleum products without proper licensing, in line with regulations set by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).

Police spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano said officers carried out the raid during the day in various parts of the district, with the fuel being confiscated at Songani Trading Centre where it was found on open display for sale.

According to Sipiliano, the sellers abandoned their merchandise and fled upon seeing law enforcement officers. She said investigations are underway to track down the suspects and bring them before the law.
