SCHOFIELD − Pearl, a 7-year-old labradoodle from Schofield, is the new safe digging ambassador for Wisconsin Public Service. She is featured on digital billboards in northeast and northcentral Wisconsin as part of National Safe Digging Day on Aug. 11, according to a community announcement.

She will be sharing her message on the company’s social media channels and safe digging awareness campaigns all year long.

Pearl was chosen through a contest that garnered more than 12,000 votes from WPS customers and dog lovers. She received 60% of the votes among 10 finalists.

Pearl's journey to becoming the safe digging ambassador began when she was brought to Schofield as a puppy. Her owner named her Pearl because her white fur resembled the gemstone and it was also the name of her owner's grandmo
