DENVER (KDVR) — As wildfires burn across the Western Slope, people are seeing the effects hundreds of miles away with hazy skies, the smell of smoke and even a weather phenomenon that causes more vibrant sunsets.
Several wildfires have been burning in western Colorado, with one fire scorching more than 123,000 acres and growing into one of the largest in state history. While Denver is hundreds of miles away from any active wildfires, there is still smoke and haze in the metro, ultimately causing more colorful sunsets.
These sunsets aren't a coincidence and they're not from the color of the flames, it all has it all has to do with the wildfire smoke.
