RIVERSIDE — What makes Victoria Club unique is the finish, with four par 5s in a five-hole span.

Sofia Vargas found herself 3 down after 13 holes with those four par 5s ahead. She birdied three of the four to take Wednesday’s SCGA Women’s Match Play Championship to extra holes against Fountain Valley’s Chloe Lam, an incoming sophomore at Santa Clara.

Then on the 20th hole, she made a nearly improbable birdie from the left rough to defeat Lam, winning her first SCGA Championship before embarking on a cross-country trip to Illinois. Vargas is an Illini women’s golf transfer after spending her freshman year at UC Riverside.

With the victory, Vargas earned exemptions into next year’s SCGA Women’s Amateur and the California Women’s Amateur tournaments.
