One of professional hockey’s trailblazers is hanging up the skates.

Norwegian hockey legend Patrick Thoresen announced his retirement from professional hockey in a social media post on Wednesday.

Thoresen, now 41, made his professional debut with the Edmonton Oilers in 2006. He recorded four goals and 12 assists in 68 games during his rookie season.

While playing for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2008, Thoresen skated in the opening game of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals and became the first Norwegian-born player to play in a Stanley Cup playoff game.
