ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota's job market showed signs of slowing in July, with the state losing 4,400 jobs and the unemployment rate rising to 3.5%, according to the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
Despite these changes, Minnesota's job growth over the year outpaced the national average. DEED reported that the state did gain 35,275 jobs over the year, an increase of 1.2%, with the private sector contributing nearly 29,200 jobs. This growth rate exceeded the national figures of 0.9% and 1.0% respectively.
“We may now be seeing results of mass federal layoffs and funding interruptions, erratic tariffs and shrinking immigration,” said DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek. “Even so, some of the favorable qualities about Minnesota’s labor market remained consistent in July
