SULLIVAN COUNTY — An Iowa man is accused of causing a child’s death in 2024.
Shane M. Stephenson, 35, is charged with second-degree murder in Sullivan County.
A probable cause statement says in October 2017 when the child was two years old, Stephenson dropped and threw him multiple times. The child weas later found unresponsive and transported to three different hospitals. The child reportedly sustained an acute cranial hemorrhage that caused permanent injury to his brain.
In August 2024, the child was found unresponsive at his home in Chillicothe and pronounced dead at Hedrick Medical Center. An autopsy determined the child died from a seizure as a result of the head injuries he sustained at the hands of Stephenson.
