A former Connecticut State Police Trooper was decertified Thursday by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) Action Subcommittee. The decision means Catherine Koeppel can no longer serve as a law enforcement officer in the state.
NBC Connecticut Investigates first reported on Koeppel in 2022, when she was arrested and charged with evading responsibility, a misdemeanor. Investigators said Koeppel, who was then a sergeant, was off duty in her state police cruiser when she rear-ended another vehicle twice and left the scene. Koeppel later called the state police barracks and reported she hit a deer.

Troopers reviewed the damage to her cruiser and determined it was not consistent with a deer strike.
