Do y’all ever feel Alabama is misunderstood? Sometimes, when I read comments from out-of-staters, I just shake my head and wonder if they’ve ever even visited here – to which I say, if you haven’t visited us, don’t be writing about us. Just sayin.’

I first learned of this week’s misconception about Alabama from Mental Floss, which posted a story based on research done by Preply , a language-learning website. It was called: “Map Shows the Hardest to Pronounce Town Name in Every U.S. State.”

The one listed for Alabama was “Loachapoka.” The problem is, no one asked us. “Loachapoka” isn’t too difficult if you break it down – “loach” like “roach,” than “uh,” then “poka” like “poke” with another “uh” on the end.
