DENVER (KDVR) — The Salvation Army is ending its programs at three Denver hotel shelters at the end of the year that were part of Denver's “All in Mile High" homelessness initiative.
On Thursday, the Salvation Army said it would be withdrawing from the Aspen, Stone Creek and Tamarac shelters once its contract with the City of Denver is up on Dec. 31. The non-profit said the shelter operating costs were out of its available funding, and it's withdrawing from the shelters to keep other programs.
The Salvation Army first joined the City of Denver in 2023 during its “All in Mile High" homelessness initiative to help combat homelessness. Throughout the two years, the non-profit said it helped nearly 2,000 people, more than half of those served, into permanent housing.
