The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and River Crossing YMCA announced plans to open a warming station ahead of schedule to accommodate residents of the Allentown’s Jordan Creek homeless encampment , who face evacuation on Aug. 25.
The warming station at the Allentown YMCA branch will open by Sept. 30, nearly two months earlier than its typical mid-November start date. The facility, which usually operates through mid-April, provides daily shelter, food, and essential services to those experiencing homelessness.
“We are pleased to provide a short-term solution for shelter by opening the Warming Station nearly two months ahead of schedule,” River Crossing YMCA President and CEO Zane Moore said in a statement on Thursday.
The YMCA has operated the warming station at its 425 S.
