The Michigan State University Board of Trustees is set to vote Friday on a design for a permanent memorial to honor the three students killed by a gunman on campus in February 2023.

The proposed memorial is expected to cost $3.2 million and would be located in MSU's Old Horticulture Gardens, located between the student services and the natural science buildings on the east side of campus, the board's resolution said. The memorial would revamp the existing fountain at the site and add benches and seasonal plants.

The Spartan Strong fund, created in the aftermath of the shooting to provide financial support to students impacted, will cover $3 million of the construction costs. The remainder will come from MSU's capital reserves, the resolution said. Maintenance costs are expected to be $22
