Oracle America has decided to slash more than 188 jobs in the Bay Area, affecting workers in the Peninsula and East Bay, according to the state Employment Development Department.
Described as permanent, the reductions will affect 143 workers in Redwood City and another 45 in Pleasanton, according to the EDD. The cuts are scheduled for Oct. 13.
Oracle previously made staffing reductions in 2017 and 2020.
The layoff announcement by Oracle follows similar recent disclosures by Altera in San Jose, which cut 82 jobs; and Block, previously known as Square, which eliminated 240 jobs at its office hub in Oakland’s Uptown district.
The most recent bout of layoffs have occurred at a time when job losses for the Bay Area tech industry are starting to abate.
