The explosion at the Clairton Coke Works on Monday that killed two workers and injured at least 10 others is inspiring a wave of support throughout the Mon Valley and beyond, resulting in fundraising efforts through GoFundMe and a Washington County artist lending her talents to help.

Shell DeHosse, the owner of apparel outlet Sparkles by Shell in Monongahela, said Thursday she is partnering with the United Steelworkers Local 1557 to create a range of “Clairton Strong” shirts, hoodies, and yard signs, with all proceeds to be donated to the affected workers and their families.

Less than 24 hours after the fundraiser launched, Ms. DeHosse said she has already sold over 800 items, ranging in price from $15 to $33.
