Clark County’s Legacy Lands program is set to add 96 acres to the more than 5,500 acres of protected valleys, narrow canyons, wetlands, riparian habitat and forests the county has acquired since the program’s creation in 1985.

Through the program, the county is buying several parcels along the East Fork Lewis River, downstream from Lewisville Regional Park. The county currently owns 1,700 acres along the river.

“Public acquisitions reflect the long-term vision to conserve open space, including critical habitat for salmon and wildlife corridors,” Kevin Tyler, manager of the Legacy Lands program , told the council during its Aug. 5 meeting.
