Fort McPherson RCMP were called to a vehicle rollover on the Dempster Highway which temporarily closed down the Peel River ferry.

Police say they were called to the crash site west of the Peel River on Highway 8 shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday after a person called in about a vehicle rollover.

Upon arrival, police found a commercial truck hauling a diesel fuel tank overturned in the ditch. Fuel had spilled out of the tank and a team was called in by the Ministry of Environment and Change to manage the spill. The accident reduced the highway to one-lane traffic for several hours. The driver was taken to Inuvik for medical care with minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and police are still investigating.
