Maria Leon is just one semester away from achieving a goal she set a decade ago: earning a bachelor's degree in nursing.

As a student living in the United States under a tenuous program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, that protects younger undocumented immigrants from deportation, the 28-year-old immigrant from Mexico is finding it difficult to focus on her studies during President Donald Trump's increasingly aggressive immigration crackdown.

The crackdown includes urging DACA recipients such as Leon to self-deport, attacking states such as Arizona that allow undocumented students to pay lower cost in-state tuition, and escalating arrests not only of undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds but anyone in the country without legal status.
