Royal enthusiasts are remembering the moment Princess Anne delivered the perfect retort when questioned about whether she would make a suitable housewife. The Princess Royal celebrates her 75th birthday today.

However, it was more than five decades ago that she firmly put an interviewer in their place shortly after announcing her engagement to her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, with whom she has two children.

During a joint interview with her fiancé in 1973, Anne - then aged 22 - was questioned about her capabilities as a domestic wife, including whether she possessed cooking or sewing abilities.
