Final pairing on Saturday will be Robert MacIntyre, Scottie Scheffler

The duo of MacIntyre and Scheffler will be on the first tee box at 1:45 p.m. ET on Saturday for the third round. Ludvig Aberg and Hideki Matsuyama are just in front of them at 1:34 p.m. ET, with Tommy Fleetwood and Michael Kim in the pairing third-to-last at 1:23 p.m. ET.

Rory McIlroy, xx, will go off with Russell Henley at 12:50 p.m. ET. BMW defending champion and Keegan Bradley will play alongside Chris Gotterup at 10:39 p.m. ET.

Scottie Scheffler shoots 65, gets to within five of the lead

Scheffler had a pair of back-to-back birdies (Nos. 4 and 5 and then Nos. 11 and 12) on Friday and closed with six straight pars to shoot 65 and get to 9 under overall. He'll be in the final group on Saturday with Robert MacIntyre, who leads by five.

Rory McIlroy records first eagle of the week for entire BMW field

McIlroy drained a 10-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 16th hole on Friday, the first eagle from anyone in the field this week at the 2025 BMW. The 16th is a 603-yard hole and after a 329-yard drive, McIlroy ripped a 268-yard second shot.

Ludvig Aberg signs for 64

Aberg followed up his Thursday 68 with a Friday 64 and was tied for second at the time he signed his card.

"I've kind of gotten away from some bad, poor habits in my swing that I did sort of early spring, early summer which I didn't really like. Definitely gotten better at that and definitely swinging it better now than I did a couple of months ago, so I'm pleased to see that coming around a little bit. It's a nice time for it," he said. "All we can do is keep working on it and keep improving and see where that takes us over the next couple days."

Will there be weather again Friday at the BMW?

The first round saw a 2 hour, 10 minute delay due to dangerous weather. The Accuweather forecast for the Owings Mills, Maryland, area for the rest of Friday indicates an 88-percent chance of precipitation and a 53-percent chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. Whether that actually happens and/or whether that brings lightning, we shall see.

Robert MacIntyre follows 62 with 64, leads by six shots

The Scottish lefty went low for a second straight day and while he didn't birdie his last six holes like he did Thursday, he did make circles on Nos. 1, 4, 7, 11, 14 and 16, while keeping his card bogey free.

"I've played beautifully the last two days. Yesterday the putter was on fire. Today I felt like my iron play was exceptional," he said. "But I've been putting in the work the last couple of weeks to make it, to improve on what I was doing since the Wyndham. Obviously coming from links golf back out to throwing darts is a bit different technique-wise, turf-wise, so it took a little bit of readjusting, but I've got the hang of it."

Harry Hall admits Tour Championship wasn't a huge goal

After a solid 67 on Friday, Harry Hall is 5 under for the tournament and, as of 3 p.m., he's in a tie for sixth place at the BMW Championship and since he's projected to finish No. 27, he could be in the field for the Tour Championship.

How much of a goal was this for Hall?

"Not that big of a goal, if I'm honest. It was more so just getting a little bit better at everything and getting better tee to green. I knew that was where I could make the most improvement, and I knew if I did that, then I could gain a shot a round, or close to, and I think I'm doing that this year.

"I like to look at the numbers, and I know if I can just average gaining 1.2 strokes a round, then it equates to playing really good golf and getting really far in the FedExCup."

Will viewers come to BMW Championship?

It's been a successful stretch for the PGA Tour, which has seen large gains in TV viewers after a 2024 season that left something to be desired.

For example, at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, Justin Rose's playoff win over J.J. Spaun drew a lot of eyes NBC reported that 3.6 million people tuned in Sunday to take in the exciting action unfolding in Memphis — a 71 percent increase from the final round viewership for Hideki Matsuyama's win a year ago (2.1 million). Also, CBS Sports reported that 2025 was its most-watched golf season in seven years.

The BMW Championship is carried by NBC and its affiliates, along with PGA Tour Live on ESPN+. Will the numbers keep trending up? We'll soon find out.

Robert MacIntyre opens with birdie

It didn't take long for Robert MacIntyre to pick up where he left off on Thursday, after closing his opening round with six straight birdies. The Scotsman added a birdie on the first hole of Friday's round to get to 9 under, which as of 11 a.m. ET is four clear of the field.

MacIntyre handled Thursday's weather issues in sterling fashion, even though he said he’s never been good at coming back out from a stoppage of play. He noted that he figured out a winning strategy at the U.S. Open during the final round when he rallied to finish second.

“I kept myself moving. I kept myself warm. I wasn't allowing the air-conditioning to almost freeze you and then you come back out to the heat and it's a shock. It was all about trying to stay warm, and the locker room was a nice temperature,” he said. “I just changed outfits because of the conditions, but no, it came at a tough time, but it gave the course a little more to us.”

How has J..J. Spaun evolved? Approach shots

After a great performance at the FedEx St. Jude last week, in which he finished second after a thrilling playoff, J.J. Spaun is in the top 15 at the BMW Championship, fighting back from a double and a bogey on his first three holes on Friday to get back to even for the tournament with three straight birdies.

Looking for a specific reason why Spaun has become one of the world's best in 2025 after a number of mediocre seasons? It's his approach game.

Per Justin Ray, the stats on Spaun's approach game have steadily improved and he's now one of the best on Tour. Not coincidentally, Spaun is also No. 6 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Here's another example, this time a gorgeous shot in which Spaun was hoping for a new car.
