Plymouth Argyle has issued a statement over 'unacceptable' fan behaviour asking fans to 'be mindful of your words and actions'. It comes after midfielder Brendan Wiredu received 'a torrent of abuse' from fans following the season-opener at Home Park.

Argyle said that it was making the move "following a spate of recent incidents both on match days and non-match days". As well as player abuse, it cited 'rude behaviour' towards the staff who work at the ground.

In a statement, the club said: "We feel it is necessary to remind the Green Army of the importance of good fan behaviour. Behaviour in certain cases around the stadium at our opening home games of the season has been unacceptable with supporters consistently reminded that their actions impact those around them.
