Today, my mind returns to a song I used to sing as a child:

“I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart — to stay!”

The beauty of joy is that, when embraced properly, it has nothing to do with circumstances. Life brings us through seasons of excitement, simplicity, and difficulty. In each of these, we are given the opportunity to choose how we respond. That is the heart of what I want to share today: Joy is a choice — a response to the unchanging glory of God.

God’s glory does not fade on the cloudiest, stormiest days. Like the sun, it continues to shine, even when hidden from view. I look to the sky, regardless of the weather, and I know the sun is still shining. I know the earth is still turning. And so, I celebrate.
