WASHINGTON — Friday is the last day to claim part of a $4.5 million settlement with GameStop, after the company was accused of selling customer data to Facebook without consent.
The class action lawsuit alleged that GameStop violated federal law by violating the Video Privacy Protection Act, also known as VPPA, by taking customer data obtained from making a purchase on its website and providing that data to Facebook.
The video game and electronics company did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
The deadline to file a claim is Friday, Aug. 15.
The settlement is eligible for anyone who purchased a video game from the company's website between Aug. 18, 2020, and Apr. 7, 2025, and who had a public Facebook profile with their name associated with it at the time of purchas
