MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- Marion CUSD #2 stated they initiated a soft lockdown on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the request of law enforcement. The school said this action was in response to potential suspicious activity near Longfellow Elementary School, Marion High School, and Marion Junior High School.

Officials with the school said the soft lockdown began at 11:03 a.m. and was lifted at 11:14 a.m. following guidance from the Marion Police Department. School officials said there was virtually no disruption to instructional activities during this time.

The district emphasized its commitment to student and staff safety, highlighting the professionalism of the staff and cooperation of the students.
