A power outage in Burlingame’s Broadway area that lasted into the afternoon and evening of Aug. 13 forced local businesses to shut down or scramble to make adjustments for customers and food service, owners say.
The outage, which was unplanned and caused by a tree making contact with a power line, affected over 929 businesses and homes at its peak, a spokesperson said. The outage began at 4:03 p.m., and most customers were restored by 10:18 p.m.
Asta Venclovaite, the owner of Broadway Grill, said that when power had turned off around 4:30 p.m., her staff had already arrived for the dinner service. Although they attempted to make it work, offering customers cold food like salads because the grills weren’t working, most customers opted to dine elsewhere for the night.
