Two Stratford Sabrecats athletes won bronze medals at national track and field meets.

Jaxon Lamb finished third in the U18 men’s javelin competition at Legion nationals in Calgary. The 17-year-old from St. Clements set a personal best of 59.92 metres to clinch his first Canadian medal.

“It was pretty cool,” he said. “It was kind of unexpected going into it.”

Prior to his trip out west, Lamb’s 2025 season had been largely disappointing. He’d fallen short of his 55-metre goal, a mark he finally cracked on his third throw at nationals. Still in fourth, Lamb – after talking to Sabrecats coach Ian Morton – decided on a shorter run-up for his final toss.

“You can kind of just tell once you throw it,” he said. “They were all good throws, but I noticed it wasn’t my best technique.”
