The Gananoque police services board has confirmed that Mayor John Beddows was suspended from his duties on the board late last year, pending the outcome of an investigation by Ontario’s Inspectorate of Policing.

In a statement posted to its website this week, the board said Beddows’s suspension began in November 2024 following a formal complaint made directly to the Inspectorate.

The board did not disclose details of the complaint, citing the ongoing investigation.

“The board is not aware as to when a decision will be released regarding this complaint as this is at the discretion of the Inspector General,” the statement reads.
