DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A 76-year-old Mocksville man is facing charges after deputies found 13 animals living in poor conditions , with many suffering from parasites, skin infections and malnutrition, according to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.
Donald Gray Payne faces three felony counts of animal cruelty and seven misdemeanor counts. He surrendered the animals , 11 dogs and two cats, to Davie County Animal Services, officials said.
Deputies executed a search warrant Wednesday at Payne’s home at 837 Turkey Foot Road. Inside, they reported finding several animals in unsanitary conditions. All of the animals were seized and taken to the Davie County Animal Shelter for evaluation.
