NORMAN — Oklahoma football coach Brent Venables told reporters Friday that Sooner quarterback John Mateer has “moved on” from the Venmo debacle that caused quite the stir on social media at the top of the week.

“I don’t want to speak for him, but in his mind, there was nothing to be seen here,” Venables said. “Thankful for the powers that be that got us to a really good place quickly."

Last Monday night, someone posted screenshots of what appeared to be Mateer’s Venmo transaction history to X (formerly Twitter). The payment log included mentions of “sports gambling.” The NCAA prohibits athletes from betting on their own sport.
