KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) - In a heartwarming display of nature's wonder, several baby sea turtles emerged from their sandy nests, making a daring dash to the Atlantic Ocean.

On Thursday, the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission shared photos and videos of these tiny travelers trekking across the beach at Kiawah Island.

According to the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol, there have been 198 reported sea turtle nests on the island this year, and the patrol team has been diligently working to protect these delicate creatures.

"We protect their nests from sand dooming, washovers, and predators, which all can have detrimental consequences to eggs and hatchlings," said Libby Miller, a member of the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol.
