No one was injured after a Chicago police officer opened fire on a gunman who fired shots Friday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.
Officers were in the 2000 block of East 71st Street about 2 p.m. when they saw the gunman fire multiple shots at someone and then flee the area, Chicago police said in a statement.
While chasing the gunman, one officer fired shots but did not hit anyone, police said. The gunman escaped, and no arrests were reported.
No injuries were reported in the shooting, police said. “We had no transports,” to hospitals, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt added.
