An Edmonton women’s advocacy group says some candidates running in this fall’s municipal election and their volunteers are facing harassment on the campaign trail, not because of their policies, but because of their gender, race and other things they can’t control.
Women’s Advisory Voice of Edmonton (WAVE) raised the alarm on social media this week saying they are “deeply concerned about reports that women and gender-diverse candidates are facing threats and unsafe situations during this campaign season”; adding, “no candidate should face threats, discrimination, or danger whether door-knocking, attending events or engaging online”
