Cape May County’s Board of Commissioners have unanimously authorized spending $300,000 on initiatives to fight homelessness.
The vote this week funds the first of two phases recommended by a county homelessness task force that has been discussing potential solutions for more than a year.
There was little discussion before the vote, which took place as part of the routine business for the county. In previous meetings, Commissioner Will Morey described a two-phase effort, with the first phase expected to cost $300,000 to supplement the county’s homeless trust and prevention program, to supplement the county’s Division of Social Services and to create an emergency motel placement for those who are not eligible for emergency housing.
Few details of a second phase have been disc
