NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- At Geddes Bakery in North Syracuse, the smell of fresh bread fills the air. But so does concern over the bottom line.

"I know that rates go up but this is unacceptable," said Pete Pappas, co-owner of Geddes Bakery.

Unacceptable, that's how Pappas is describing National Grids rate hikes, which go into effect next month. He says it's already tough enough to keep the doors open and the ovens hot.

"Expect the worst and pray that it doesn't happen, that's probably the best answer I can give you for that, because I don't want to be shocked when I open my bill up, and this last one shocked me. I'm like, why is it so high?" said Pappas.
