New York state Attorney General Letitia James is calling on Instagram to remove location sharing for minors.

James is one of 37 attorneys general that are asking Meta, which owns Instagram, to make the change. Instagram's recent move allows users to enable real-time locations on a map.

The attorneys general said this puts vulnerable people at risk, including children and survivors of domestic violence, and makes it easier for potential stalkers.

The attorneys general are asking Meta to remove the feature for minors and educate adults on the risks.

According to Meta, location sharing is off unless you opt in. If you do share your location with friends, you have controls to customize who sees it.
