CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — The tables are set and tents are going up here at the Ukrainian Homestead near Lehighton.

Paula Holoviak says members have been preparing for weeks for the annual festival to celebrate Ukrainian independence, "Be joyful, to share our amazing culture because the Ukrainian people are an independent nation with their our language and their own history, and their own culture."

The 2-day festival puts that culture front and center with traditional food and dancing.

But amid the excitement, members here are thinking about the ongoing war with Russia, especially now that Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in the U.S. to meet with President Donald Trump.

"The community is very opposed to this meeting at all, and there should not be a meeting without the Ukraine
