Don't miss being a part of the Ma Matow Sakow Community Planting Day on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Anyone can stop in and lend a hand - or a shovel - from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at By-the-Lake Park in Wetaskiwin.

Help plant 2,000 white spruce trees to help kick off the Ma Matow Sakow Healing Forestand enjoy a free community barbecue.

"We are planting a living symbol of re-wilding, reconciliation, and community together. People of all ages and skill levels are welcome," stated a post on the City of Wetaskiwin's website.

"Shovels will be provided, but gloves, picnic blankets, and camp chairs are encouraged."

The trees will be planted on a former construction landfill. The site, which will soon be known as the Ma Matow Sakow Healing Forest (meaning Miracle Forest in Cree) is being 're-wilded' with 8,
