The Department of Environment and Climate Change says it's taking proper precautions after a possible case of anthrax was found in a bison carcass along Highway 3.
According to a Friday afternoon release from the department, the carcass was found on the west shoulder of the highway at kilometre 164. Results from lab testing are still pending, but a preliminary investigation has determined anthrax is suspected in its death and preventative measures are being taken.
The department stated it has put together an incident management team and the carcass will be burned on the side of the road on either Saturday of Sunday if conditions allow for it. The reason for incinerating it is so no scavenging can take place and to try and prevent the spread if anthrax is confirmed.
