CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) is warning of budget challenges, saying the cost of subsidizing rent for tenants relying on Section 8 vouchers is outpacing their housing assistance funding for the calendar year.
Last week, Dorivette Nolan, CMHA’s chief of policy, planning and voucher administration, emailed landlords about the situation:
“Due to potential federal underfunding, the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) is preparing to face a significant voucher budget shortfall by the end of the calendar year,” she wrote. “In light of this, we respectfully request your consideration to forgo any proposed rent increases for the remainder of the calendar year.”
