HARTWELL, Ga. —

First responders rescued an infant who was locked in a vehicle outside a daycare center in Hartwell, Georgia.

Around 1 p.m. Friday, authorities responded to the Hartwell Learning Academy on East Johnson Street regarding a report of an infant locked in a car with the windows closed. Temperatures at this time were at or near 90.

First responders gained access to the vehicle, rescued the infant and transported the child to a local area hospital for treatment of heat-related injuries, according to police.

Hartwell Police Chief Anthony Davis reports the mother of the child was also treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital after suffering a medical episode outside the Academy.

Davis says no charges have been filed and there is an ongoing investigation.
