With Mayor Eddie Penny not seeking re-election, the race for Fairfield’s top seat is fierce as six challengers vie for the position.

The competition includes 18-year-old Brandon Moss , current District 4 Councilor Cedric J. Norman and former councilor Cynthia Turner-McDowell.

In 2012, both Omar Young and Frederick Scott, who was council president pro-tem at the time, ran for mayor . Now they are challenging District 1 incumbent Barakas Taylor.

District 2 Councilor Susan Joe Rembert-Parks is hoping to keep her seat but is challenged by two candidates, one a deacon, the other a local advocate.

Other councilors are looking to make a move on different seats, leaving their own wide open to newcomers.
