LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas middle schoolers are about to learn a new lesson this year — they'll be learning all about the rules of the road.
As they get ready to embark on their journey to becoming drivers, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is rolling out a new program to make sure they're prepared before they even get behind the wheel for the first time.
The new curriculum is called "Street Smart" and it's the first program of its kind in Arkansas.
This school year, 6th-8th graders will take the course, but ARDOT plans to eventually expand it beyond just middle schoolers.
This partnership with the Arkansas Department of Education will teach kids to not only be a safe driver, but also a safe passenger, pedestrian and bicyclist too.
