The Ruben Yli-Juuti Centre pool reopening will not be taking place anytime soon.

“I thought it was important that I give the community some context on the timelines that we’re looking at for reopening. They’re longer than we would hope,” said special projects manager Bill Goulding at the Aug. 11 council meeting.

When asked about a September reopening, Goulding said, “The honest truth is I can’t think of a means by which we could do that given the situation we’re in right now.”

He explained that the city is currently involved in an insurance claim and in order to realize that claim there are investigations that need to go forward. The value of the equipment that has been affected by the loss is about $2 million.
