From Saturday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Aug. 10, Serpent River First Nation (SRFN) held their 34th annual Traditional Jiintamok (pow wow) with a theme of ‘Honouring the Strength Within.’

The pow wow is traditionally known as the Genaabaajing Jiintamok, SRFN prides itself on being an open and welcoming community of caring and compassionate families as stated on the welcome sign to the community along Highway, 17 just west of Spanish. This year’s event exemplified the welcoming and warm spirit of the community when it hosted hundreds of visitors on each day of the pow wow. The crowds were enormous; strolling through the food and craft vendors’ area was akin to making your way through a sold-out concert. There was no time to look down to glance for quarters while walking through the crowds, it
