SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Texas law enforcement is reminding the public that cell phone use is prohibited in school zones.

Fines can be up to $200 per violation, and it is used to stop distractions for the safety of the children.

"When it comes to the law about not using a cell phone when driving past schools, let's be a little bit more clear about that," Sgt. Justin Baker said. "That is anywhere on school property. We need to make sure we are not being distracted by cellular devices. So if we're gonna drop off line or pick up line, or driving by a school and you're in a school zone or the property of, we will not be using our cell phones.

Baker also wanted to remind that public that they must stop when a school bus is stopped or when its light are activated.
