President Donald Trump ducked and dodged Friday night when pressed by Fox News host Sean Hannity on details about what exactly happened in the room between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin, at one point rambling about groceries, the border and Social Security.
Trump joined Hannity following a three-hour meeting behind closed doors with Putin, in which the men walked away unable to secure a deal to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Trump raised eyebrows by telling Hannity he'd give the meeting a 10/10 rating.
"I think the meeting was a 10 in the sense we got along great," Trump insisted, despite previously downplaying the meeting, saying, "We haven’t quite got there, but we’ve got some headway. There’s no deal until there’s a deal."
When Trump said he had "alone time" with Putin, Hannity pressed him on what they disagreed on.
"In your press conference, you talked about a lot of things that you agreed on. And maybe one big issue you don't agree on. Are you prepared to go public with that?" asked Hannity.
Trump rebuffed the question without hesitation.
"No. I'd rather not. I guess somebody will go public with it. They'll figure it out. But no, I don't want to do that. I want to see if we can get it done," said Trump, noting Ukraine must agree as well.
He later added there were multiple "significant" items they couldn't agree on.
Eventually, Hannity brought up a comment from Putin that he called "historic and deep and profound."
"Russia stated something that you had stated many, many times," Hannity said. "And many people, your political opponents, might have dismissed. But he said this war would not have taken place if you were president. Now, he did give you behind-the-scenes, specific reasons why it happened under Biden. He did give you reasons?"
But rather than reveal those reasons, Trump said he knew why and blamed Biden's "gross incompetence" before launching into a lengthy rant about the border and grocery prices.
"I mean, we have a border that's totally closed now, and people come in, but they come in legally," Trump began. "But we had zero, as you know, the first time you heard was three months ago, but we've done it now three times in a row. Zero people coming in illegally."
He then pivoted to falsely claiming the country has no inflation and that the price of energy and groceries is down.
"People are happy, we're saving Social Security. You saw that the other day."
