BRAINERD — NHRA Top Fuel driver Antron Brown found himself in familiar territory in the No. 1 qualifying position after the opening day of the 42nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals Friday, Aug. 15, at Brainerd International Raceway.
Brown ran an elapsed time of 3.742 early in the second round of qualifying. The final two drivers of the night, Clay Millican and Tony Stewart, could not catch him. Millican finished in second place with an ET of 3.746 at 330.72 MPH.
Defending champion Justin Ashley finished 13th. Torrence is also trying for two wins as he also competed in the Super Comp class.
The highlight of the first session was a run of 3.794 at 330.96 from Millican which put him in the top spot. Tony Stewart was in second place running at 3.827 and Ida Zetterstrom was third with a 3.877
